Plot - About the story “The Novice”
College freshman Alex Dall becomes intensely focused on joining the Wellington College Novice Rowing Program, driven by her competitive nature and desire to excel.
Despite her efforts, she struggles to outperform her teammate Jamie, leading to obsessive behaviour and declining academic performance. Alex's determination leads to isolation from her peers and deteriorating physical and mental health.
Eventually, Alex's relentless pursuit of success culminates in a risky rowing challenge during a thunderstorm, leaving her teammates and coaches shocked by her actions and uncertain of her future with the team.
