On Saturday, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's new web series Heeramandi received its teaser from Netflix India.
On its official social media pages,
Netflix posted a quick video showcasing the major characters. Sanjay Leela Bhansali makes his web series debut with Heeramandi.
The video opens with the first appearances of the actors Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Sonakshi Sinha.
All of the actors, who are seated close to one another, are dressed in mustard-colored attire. Sonakshi was the only one of them standing, and she bowed and said salaam to the camera.
The video's commentary read, "We are eager to take part in the new historical era or magical setting created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Here is a glimpse into Heeramandi's beautiful and intriguing world."
The figures appear in yet another Netflix video clip, this time donning all-black clothes.
The description of the post said, "Their incredible talent and grace were coupled with the splendor Sanjay Leela Bhansali. We'll wait while you name a more well-known squad. Just on Netflix coming soon."
The series explores the cultural realities of Heeramandi, a glitzy quarter, via the stories of courtesans and their clients set against the volatile backdrop of the Indian liberation war in the 1940s.
Bhansali and Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, met on Saturday in Mumbai to talk about how Indian and global storytelling is changing.
It should be noted that in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, which was released last year, Alia Bhatt portrayed a sex worker who evolved into a mafia queen.
The musical Baiju Bawra, which will star Alia Bhatt, is another project being worked on by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
