Luther Series 1 (2010)

Critics gave the first season of Luther a favorable review, and it averaged 5.9 million viewers per episode when it debuted in 2010.

Luther Series 2 (2011)

The BBC confirmed that a new season has been ordered for 2011. In late September or early October 2010, production began.

It is originally scheduled to be in two two-hour episodes, but it has instead been broadcast in four one-hour installments. The debut episode debuted on BBC One on June 14, 2011.

Luther Series 4 (2015)

A two-episode special that would appear on the BBC in 2015 was confirmed. Filming lasted from March 2015 till April 2015. [needs non-primary source] Later,

BBC Home Entertainment announced that the Region 1 release of the Series 4 DVD would take place on December 15, 2015, the same day the fourth season premiered.

Luther Series 5 (2019)

On June 12, 2017, the BBC revealed a fifth season with four episodes. Early 2018 saw the start of production. It revealed that Ruth Wilson would reprise her role as Alice Morgan in season five.

Idris Elba played DI John Luther, and Ruth Wilson played Alice Morgan in the "British psychological crime thriller television series the Luther".

Since the killer Morgan and Detective Luther have a difficult connection, Luther must prosecute criminals. Six episodes made up the inaugural season, which aired in May and June 2010.

In June and July 2011, BBC One broadcast a second series of four episodes; a third, commissioned in 2012 and consisting of four episodes, debuted in July 2013.

A fourth series of two episodes aired in December 2015, and on January 1, 2019, a fifth series of four episodes debuted. The TV show's distribution has been handled by BBC Studios.

According to Luther's creator Neil Cross, Columbo and Sherlock Holmes both had an effect on the show. Luther's intellect and how it applied to solving crimes are similar to Holmes', while Columbo's use of the inverted detective format was a big influence.

Highlights

For his portrayal of John Luther, Elba won a Critics' Choice Television Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Elba garnered four nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie, one of the eleven Primetime Emmy nominations for the series in multiple categories.
