Plot Summary:
Theodore Finch and Violet Markey, two teenagers from a small town in Indiana, are both unhappy. Violet struggles with survivor's guilt after the death of her sister Eleanor, while Finch is a loner and called a "freak" by his classmates.
They meet on the bridge where Eleanor died, and Finch talks Violet down from a possible suicide. The two become partners for a school project and begin to explore Indiana together. While traveling, Violet slowly starts to heal, and they fall in love. However, Finch occasionally displays strange behavior and disappears for days.
Eventually, Violet discovers that Finch had been physically abused by his father and was struggling with "dark moods." Despite their deep connection, Finch disappears, and Violet finds his clothes and phone at the Blue Hole, where she infers that he drowned himself.
Later, she attends his funeral, but while healing, she discovers the map they used to travel together and finds Finch's signature in the guest book at the Travelers' Prayers Chapel.

In July 2015, it was announced that Elle Fanning would star in "All the Bright Places," with Jennifer Niven writing the adapted screenplay.
The film was initially set to be directed by Miguel Arteta but was later directed by Brett Haley, with Liz Hannah co-writing the script with Niven.
The film was produced by Echo Lake Entertainment and FilmNation Entertainment, with Fanning, Paula Mazur, Mitchell Kaplan, Doug Mankoff, Andrew Spaulding, and Brittany Kahn serving as producers, and Hannah as an executive producer.
In October 2018, Alexandra Shipp, Keegan-Michael Key, Luke Wilson, Kelli O'Hara, Virginia Gardner, Felix Mallard, Lamar Johnson, and Sofia Hasmik joined the cast, and filming began in Ohio.
